Protest against closure of schools in HSZ

[TamilNet, Sunday, 18 May 2003, 03:23 GMT]
Students and parents of six schools located in the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) demarcated High Security Zone (HSZ) in the Thenmaradchy in Jaffna peninsula are planning to protest against the closure of their schools, press reports in Jaffna said.

Eluthumadduval Sri Ganesha Vidyalayam, Ottuveli Government Mixed School, Karakambakam Government Mixed School, Thanangkilapu Government Mixed School, Maravanpulo Sakalakalavalli Vidyalayam and Eluthumadduval North Government Mixed School are the schools announced to be closed according to security sources.

The teachers and principals of the above schools who are currently assigned for duty temporarily in other schools are to be made to work there permanently, according to sources.

Residents of these areas in the HSZ are alarmed at the proposed closure of schools which they say dims any prospect of their resettlement.
