Swiss organization opens health clinic in Ayathiyamalai

International voluntary organization, Terre des homme (Tdh) which has its head quarters in Switzerland, Thursday, opened a Medical and Health Clinic in Ayathiyamalai, a village located 52km southwest of Batticaloa town, health officials in Batticaloa said.

The Health Clinic in Ayathiyamalai is expected to provide specialized support to children and expectant mothers, said sources.

More than 700 families used to reside in Ayathiyamalai region during the early 1990. The villagers were displaced due to war and several have now returned back to their homes.

The Health Clinic, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.4 million, was ceremonially opened by Batticaloa resident representative of Terre Des homme, Miranda Armstrong by cutting the ribbon.

District Health Services Commissioner, Dr. S. William, Pattipalai Health and Medical Officer, S. Krishnakumar, Pattipalai political head of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), T. Lakiyaraj, External Officer, K. Kamalanathan and other health officials participated in the opening event.

Terre des Homes has been serving the deprived regions in Batticaloa district for several years especially in the area of nutritional and medical help to children and mothers.
