[TamilNet, Friday, 18 October 2002, 17:10 GMT]
The second death anniversary of journalist Mr. Mylvaganam Nimalarajan was observed in Jaffna Friday under the auspices of International Thamileelam Students Forum ( ITSF ) and Jaffna district Media Association.

"The killing of Mr.Nimalarajan by the State armed forces in connivance with the para military group EPDP had brought to the notice of the international community the blatant human rights violations that took place during the past regime in the peninsula," said Mr.C.V.K.Sivagnanam, President of the Jaffna Agricultural Consumers' Federation addressing a commemoration meeting held Friday evening at the ITSF office.

Unidentified gunmen shot journalist Nimalarajan dead two years ago on 19th October 2000 when he was at home at Chundikuli, a high security zone in the peninsula. Human rights activists blamed the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP), a para military group of the then Peoples Alliance government for the Nimalarajan killing.

"The services rendered by the late journalist Nimalarajan through the media had highlighted the oppressive policies of the then People’s Alliance government and its para milirary group EPDP imposed on Jaffna Tamils ," added Mr. Sivagnanam.

Jaffna University Students Association President Mr.S.Gajendran presided. Chief Editors of Jaffna based Tamil dailies Messrs C.N.Vithiyatharan, (Uthayan), S.Vijayasuntharam (Valampuri) and R.Raguram (Namathu Eelanadu), Jaffna Mayor Mr.S.Kandiah and Mr.V.Thavachelvan, President of the Jaffna district media association also spoke.
