Six TELO cadres arrested for murder

The Batticaloa Additional District Judge on Tuesday remanded six members of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) in connection with the murder of Parameswaran Yugendran, a security guard at Insurance Co-operation who was severely assaulted by the suspects on 26 October at Aaraiyampathi, about 8 km. south of Batticaloa. Yugendran died in Colombo Hospital after 45 days in coma.

The names of the six suspects in remand are: Seenithamby Ranjan alias Varathan (27)-Organizer of the TELO camp at Araiampathi, Seenithamby Kokularajan (24), Saverimuthu Mathivathanan (18), Parthipan Surenthiran (23), Panchalingam Laxmanan (23) and Thambirajah Singarajah (18). The judge remanded the suspects till 26 December.

Two more suspects were evading arrest, the court was told.

TELO is an ex-Tamil militant group that has been operating with the Sri Lanka army for more than ten years. Three TELO members were elected to Parliament in the last election.
