A former Secretary to the North East Provincial Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Sports Mr.Sundaram Divakalala has informed the Commissioner of Elections that his name has been included in the National Unity Alliance list of candidates contesting the Jaffna district, without his consent.

In a letter to the Commissioner of Elections sent today, Mr.Sundaram Divakala states:-

"I am given to understand from newspapers, that my name too has been given in the National Unity Alliance list as a candidate for the forthcoming general elections for the Jaffna district.

My name has been given as Divakalala Sundaram, Vauxhall Street, Colombo, businessman (in the list).

I wish to inform you that I have not given my consent to anybody to put my name into any list.

Hence, I wish to register my protest for my name being inserted into the National Unity Alliance list."

Mr.Sundaram Divakala has sent a copy of this letter to the Government Agent, Jaffna district who accepted nomination papers from political parties and independent groups last Monday in the capacity of the Returning Officer.

The National Unity Alliance (NUA) is a constituent of the People's Alliance (PA). PA and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress are contesting the Jaffna district under the NUA banner.

It is alleged that several prominent retired government officials working in the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Shipping have also been included in the Jaffna list of the NUA without their consent. It is reliably learnt that they too have protested to the authorities concerned.
