Government Minister urges third party mediation

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 12 October 1999, 14:12 GMT]
The Deputy Minister for Posts, Telecommunication and Media Mr. M. S. M. Hisbullah said that a powerful third party is urgently needed to settle the ethnic problem in the country.

Addressing a public meeting at Eravur, followed by the opening of a vocational training centre, Mr. Hisbullah expressed concern over the statement made by the Foreign Minister Kadirgamar that third party mediation is not needed to settle the dispute between the two communities.

The main obstacle to settling the dispute through negotiation was the mistrust between the two warring parties. This mistrust could be eliminated only through third party mediation, he stressed.
