Colombo stops construction of cricket stadium in Trincomalee

The Sri Lanka’s Department of Archaeology has instructed the Divisional Secretary of the Trincomalee Town and Gravets to stop work immediately on the construction of a cricket stadium in the Trincomalee esplanade. The directive was issued by the Department of Archaeology following the finding of a stone inscription from the site while the leveling of the ground was in progress.

The Sri Lanka Cricket has undertaken the project of constructing an international standard cricket stadium behind the Macheyzer Stadium in Trincomalee esplanade with the funding of the Eastern Provincial Governor Mohan Wijewickrema.

Recently Sri Lanka Cricket officials accompanied by the provincial governor inspected the site and progress on the project.

Already leveling work has been completed and the land has been completely fenced.
