A Tamil woman residing in Modera, Colombo, since 2003 was taken into custody last week and is being detained by the Terrorist Intelligence Department (TID) of the Sri Lank Police according to a complaint by her mother handed over to Colombo district parliamentarian P.Radhakrishnan, media sources said.

Ms Kanapathipillai Thangaratnam in the complaint says that her daughter Kanapathipillai Tharshani, 31, who was born at Murasumoddai in Killinochchi district, had come to Colombo in 2003 and married a person working in Canada.

Tharshani has been waiting in Colombo to join her husband in Canada since her marriage. She has not committed any offence and possesses a national identity card and other legal documents, the mother said.

Parliamentarian Radhakrishnan has contacted the TID Director regarding the complaint.
