SLMC complains violence against candidates, supporters

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leadership Sunday alleged that there has been increasing number of violence incidents against its candidates contesting local elections in the Batticaloa district by the Sri Lanka government parties, especially in Vaazhaichcheanai area, according to media reports quoting SLMC Batticaloa district Co-ordinator Mr.M.L.A.M.Hisbullah.

SLMC supporters were attacked and three shops were set on fire. Three houses were damaged, five candidates were attacked, and a house of a candidate was bombed, said Mr.Hisbullah.

Complaints have been made to the law enforcement authority but no action has been taken, SLMC sources said.
