Civilian shot dead, Karuna group member injured in Batticaloa

Unidentified armed men storming into a tea stall opened fire killing a civilian and injuring a member of Karuna group Sunday around 9:35 a.m in the tea stall located around 200 meters from the police post along Batticalao-Kalmunai Main Road in Batticaloa.

The civilian killed was identified as Gnanasingam Nithiyapiraba, 24, a resident of Karaitheevu-5, Batticaloa.

The Karuna group member injured is K. Mathan, 27, the head of the Paddiruppu political wing of Karuna group.

Mathan was rushed to Kalmunai hospital where he is under treatment now.

Karuna groupís office is located next to the police post along the Batticaloa-Kalmunai Main Road and Karuna group members had gone to the tea stall that was about 200 meters from their office.
