Former AG Kamalasabeyson passes away

Mr.K.C.Kamalasabeyson, former Attorney General of Sri Lanka, passed away in a private nursing home at Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu state in India, Sunday early morning around 2.30 a.m., after a brief illness, sources in Colombo said. He was 59. He retired from the post of Attorney General in April this year.

Born in Trincomalee town on April 8, 1949 he joined the Law College in 1969 and passed out as an advocate in the year 1971 obtaining 1st Class Honours.

He took oaths as advocate on June 23,1972.

He later joined the Attorney General's Department as a State Counsel on 1 August 1974. Kamalasabeyson was appointed Senior State Counsel in the year 1984.

He was appointed President Counsel in March 1996 and was appointed Solicitor General in the year 1999.

Few months later he was appointed Attorney General in October the same year. He retired from the post of Attorney General on 8 April 2007.
