SLN intimidates Mullaiththeevu fishermen

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 25 July 2007, 04:04 GMT]
Six Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Dvora ships patrolling the sea Tuesday morning between 6:30 a.m close to Mullaiththeevu approached two groups of fishermen fishing less than 2km from the coast and forced them to flee, affected fishermen said.

Due to SLN harassment fishermen have been avoiding venturing into deep sea, but SLN has started intimidating fishermen closer to the shores, Fisheries officials said.

Mr.K.Kunasingarajagh President of Mullaiththeevu Fisheries Co-operative Federation said that fishermen saved their lives by taking evasive action.

A'lampil fishermen have already lodged a complaint with the Federation regarding the incident
