Sri Lankan trooper succumbs to injuries

A Sri Lankan soldier attached to Batticaloa military base succumbed to serious injuries Friday around 2.45 p.m. at Colombo National Hospital where he was admitted after being injured in the claymore blast Monday at Korakallimadu, Kiran in Batticaloa, Eravur police said.

The claymore attack targeted a Sri Lanka Air Force and Army convoy transporting soldiers from Batticaloa to Polanaruwa.

The victim, M.W.Thilakaratne, was immediately airlifted to Colombo National Hospital in a special helicopter.

Four persons including the wife and children of a Sri Lanka Air force Commander, injured in the attack, were brought to Kalkudah SLA camp and then flown to Colombo for treatment in a special helicopter.
