Rights body reports 62 deaths, disappearances in NorthEast

NorthEast Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) in a report released Sunday has listed details of 62 killings and disappearances of Tamil civilians by the Sri Lanka security forces and collaborating paramilitaries in the NorthEast during the last seven weeks.

Trincomalee (21), Jaffna (17), Batticaloa (12), Vavuniya (8) and Mannar (4) make up the 62 victims.

NESOHR states that small business owners, because of their visibility, have turned out to be main targets for the killers.

"All our members except those working in the LTTE areas are keeping away from NESOHR work due threat to the lives," the report says.
