Expel Norway, demands JVP

"If Norway is not sacked immediately from the peace process, we will amass more than two hundred thousand people in a protest demonstration in front of the Norweigian Embassy," warned Wimal Weerawanse, parliamentarian and propaganda Secretary of marxist Jathika Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), at a meeting in Colombo Tuesday evening, sources said. Patriotic National Movement (PNM), an alliance of extreme Sinhala nationalists, organized the meeting at Mahaveli Centre Colombo.

PNM meeting 28th March.
Several Buddhist monks, professors and lecturers from the Universities of Kelaniya, Jayawardnepura attended the meeting, sources said.

The JVP propaganda secretary denounced the former President Chandrika Kumaratunge for inviting Norway in as the facilitator, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for signing the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) with the Liberation Tigers (LTTE), and President Mahinda Rajapakse for engaging with the LTTE in the Geneva talks, attendees to the meeting said.

Accusing the Norwegian government for compromising the sovereignty of Sri Lanka, Mr. Weerwanse demanded Mr. Rajapakse to implement urgently the pre-election agreement he signed with the JVP, sources said.

"Our objective in making Mr. Rajapakse the President of Sri Lanka has failed. If he conitinues to ignore the pact, we have no alternative other than to withdraw our support to him in governing Sri Lanka," warned Mr.Weerawanse.

"Norway labors to gain International recognition to the LTTE. We are ready to launch sustained agitation and protest demonstrations against Norway," added Mr. Weerawanse.

Attorney-at-law S.S. Gunsekara in his speech said, "Tamil Homeland principle cannot be accepted. Solution to the ethnic issue has to be found within the Unitary constitution of Sri Lanka."

The Patriotic National Movement (PNM), a Sinhala Nationalist Organization, decided at its 19th annual convention of its branches on the 21st December 2004, to annul the ceasefire agreement (CFA) and to remove Norway from its facilitation role in the peace talks.
