Jaffna University Students Union issued a statement the same day that they will stage a one-day token strike Tuesday to exert pressure on the administration to find an early solution to employees' strike so that education of students is not adversely affected, sources said.

In the meantime, Vice Chancellor Professor Mohanadas on his return from Trincomalee Monday held discussions with Varsity Teachers Union representatives and heads of all faculties. Later in the evening he met with the representatives of Varsity Students' Union.

His attempts failed to bring about an amicable settlement between the striking employees union and varsity administration, sources said.

Varsity sources further said the Vice Chancellor would continue his discussion with relevant parties to bring a solution to the strike that has badly affected the education and also has delayed holding examinations, sources said.
