Sangaree declines invitation to meet SL President

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 18 November 2003, 11:27 GMT]
V. Anandasangaree, a Tamil Member of Parliament (MP) and President of Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), declined an invitation to meet with Sri Lanka's President Ms.Kumaratunge saying that such a meeting will create misunderstanding among Tamil people, a popular Jaffna Tamil daily Uthayan reported.

"Ms.Kumaratunge in an urgent letter in reponse to my previous communications with her on 30 October and on 7 November invited me for a meeting at 4 pm Tuesday.

"I declined the invitation fearing the meeting will cause misapprehensions among my people.

"I have pointed out to Ms.Kumaratunge that appointing and sacking of Ministers is best left to Sri Lanka's Prime Minister, and that Sri Lanka's President should function respecting democratic principles without exercising the overriding authority afforded to the presidency in Sri Lanka's constitution," said a media release by the MP, reported the Uthayan.
